Trainer's Course Includes:

The content of our Cycle Right trainer's course includes:

Course planning and scheduling
Preparation of sessions plans
Communication and Training Skills
Health and safety
Risk assessment
Route planning
Assessment and feedback
Course administration

Delivery of:

Theory and rules of the road sessions
Pre-cycling checks
Signs, markings, road and bicycle infrastructure
Sharing the road with vehicles and pedestrians
Yard-based skills and road manoeuvre training
Cycling in groups

Post Course Assessments

New trainers must complete two post-course assessments before they are listed as an accredited providers.

Post-course assessments are generally carried out within the first six months of trainer activity, depending on their volume of work.

It is highly recommended that, where possible, new trainers work alongside experienced trainers for the first six months post course. This period allows newly qualified trainers an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the programme material and to gain confidence and experience delivering the content.

Facilitating Approved Training

Once approved, two certified Cycle Right trainers are required to be present on all approved programme delivery. This ensures best safeguarding practices are upheld and maximises the learning opportunities for all participants.

Quality Assurance

Cycle Right carries out annual assessments to a percentage of approved Cycle Right Trainers.

These assessments are carried out by qualified assessors and are designed to support and provide feedback on training to allow for Continuous Professional Development (CPD) for trainers.

All Accredited Cycle Right Trainers must provide the following:

Valid Cycling Ireland garda vetting letter
Valid Safeguarding 1 certificate
Valid First aid Responder (FAR) course certificate
Annual registration signed and dated
Evidence of appropriate level of insurance cover
Tax clearance certificate (named) or proof of employment
Cycling Ireland membership

Funding:

Funding towards the cost of Cycle Right Stage 1 training is available with thanks to the Department of Transport and the Road Safety Authority (RSA).
Trainers delivering approved training can avail of a rate of €35 / €45 per student depending on school status.
