Stage 1 of the Cycle Right programme is currently funded by the Department of Transport and the Road Safety Authority (RSA).

The remaining cost of training will vary according to additional supports which may be available from local authorities or local sports partnerships.

Taking these into account, we would advise you confirm the balancing cost of training per participant with your Cycle Right provider prior to the first session of the programme

Stage 1 training is available to one class level per primary school annually, recommended to be a senior class grouping (3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th) according to school preference.

The exception is where schools have combined classes e.g. 5th and 6th combined. In these circumstances, groupings may participate together. However, please note approved training is available once per participant.

Training will be available to the group again only when there is a group of children participating who have not been involved in training before.

Stage 2 training is available for secondary school training, and Stage 3 training is available is available for adults. However, funding is currently not available for these trainings.

Availability is dependent on the provider, as some providers may only deliver Stage 1 training.

Stage 1 of the Cycle Right programme is structured to include those who may not have cycled independently before. The on-road element of training is a goal for all participants, but each trainee will complete training appropriate to their individual learning curve, skill level, and outcomes reached.

There is also Cycle Right training available for individuals with additional needs. It is worthwhile consulting with your chosen trainer to see what types of groups they can cater for.

We can verify a trainer’s qualification if required, send you copies of necessary forms, and forward your course information to An Taisce for additional funding applications.

There is currently no course content or forms available as Gaeilge. The potential of training being delivered as Gaeilge will need to be discussed with your training provider.

This will depend on the schedule and preferences of the training provider. We would encourage you to contact any providers that service your county to enquire about this. Please note that this type of training is not funded by us and you should discuss costs with the trainer when organising lessons.
